This set of four oak chairs was hand-crafted in England around 1900. Since then, the oak has come to acquire a lovely patina, which nicely complements the chartreuse fabric upholdstery. The distinct oak grain, especially exquisite in this set of chairs due to the use of tiger oak, looks splendid set in the grooves and carvings of the chairs. The lower framing is turned oak wood, an effect nicely mirrored in the spindles located on the backrest of each chair. The crowning lion heads on either side of the chairs bring these details together in a show of elegance and charm that can only result from a combination of great age and fine craftsmanship.
There are a few flaws, however: a rear corner on two of the chairs is chipped; in several places on the four chairs, the seams along the upholstery are worn; there are a few tiny repairs where some time ago a hole was filled or some such thing; and next to one of these repairs is a single, tiny protruding nail. The chairs are still sturdy, though, and these flaws are miniscule compaired to the harlequin array of details that master craftsmen imbued in the chairs long ago. Indeed, this charming set of four exquisite oak chairs would certainly make a fine addition to any home!
