Late Production 1912 Dated DWM Model 1908 Military Contract Imperial German Luger Pistol

This is an excellent example of a late production pre-WWI DWM Model 1908 military contract German Luger manufactured in the first serial number range without any letter suffix. This series of Luger was produced from 1908 to late 1913 in both the military and commercial variants and can easily be distinguished from the later 1914/P.08 Lugers by the lack of the hold-open device and no stock lug. The top of the chamber area is dated 1912, with the standard DWM markings on the front toggle assembly. This Luger is numbered in the standard military fashion, with the standard "Crown over Script Letter" proofmarks, next to the Imperial Eagle firing proof. It was also later modified to add the hold open device which was performed on 1908 Model Lugers, in the 1913-1918 time frame and into the Weimar era. It has the original walnut checkered grips and is fitted with an original WWI era, nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base. This Luger features a rust blued finish with the straw colored small parts and checkered walnut grips.

Manufucture: DWM
Model: 1908 Military
BBL: 3 7/8 inch round
Stock:
Guage: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 1584

Very fine with professionally refinished grip straps with the balance of gun retaining most of the original blue finish with wedge and high spot wear overall, with 90% of the refurbished straw colors on the various small parts. The grips are also in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides, with some minor wear across the tops of the checkering. Mechanically excellent. This excellent early Luger has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above.
