Late Period, c.664 - 336 BC. A large faience amulet of the god Pataikos, in naked dwarf form. His hands are placed on his belly and he wears a scarab upon his head. Upon the base is incised an 'Udjat' or 'Eye of Horus'. Intact with a slight chip on shoulder. A marvelous piece. H: 5.5cm / 2 1/8". The Pataikoi are named from a passage in the writings of Herotodus describing Phoenician dwarf-form protective images. Pataikos perhaps represents a form of the craftsman god Ptah. $1000
