Offered here is a marble topped column for a sculpture or a plant of the late 19th to early 20th century. It was owned by Mrs. Gibson of Apalachicola, Florida. The Gibsons were an old Apalachicola family and owned the Gibson Hotel, which is a lovely old Victorian building, still the Gibson Hotel, and very much the center of activity in this charming town on the Gulf Coast of Florida. The pedestal has a crusty old (original) finish in black with gold outlining the water lily motif that is carved in the wood. The marble is pink or coral colored, and may or may not be original to the pedestal. No one remembers for sure, but the family believes the stand was in the hotel at one time. It measures 41" high. The marble and the base are 9-10" square. The condition is as found. The finish is crusty, there is some wood separation from age, and there is a chip on one corner of the marble. The piece is, however, quite sturdy, and should last another hundred years.
