Late 19th Century U.S. Engineers Major's Epaulets, by Ridabock & Co., high quality, beautifully mfg'd and embroidered, consisting of double wrapped gold braid over black felt, embroidered with silver bullion Engineer's castle centered between two Major's gold oakleaves. Gold-plated brass attaching strap marked ''Ridabock & Co., Formerly Baker & McKenney/New York''. This style epaulet was used post-Civil War until 1902 when the background color was changed from black to crimson specifically for the Engineers. Contained in its original maroon two-piece pasteboard box. Condition is excellent remaining virtually new with very small separation of bullion near top of one castle tower. Beautiful and of high quality American mfg., extremely rare, and seldom seen in any condition. Box shows moderate water damage and scuffs to small edge of lid; minor separation in corners, but otherwise tight and complete. Est.: $500-$750.
