Late 19th Century U.S. Engineers Colonel's Epaulets, by Ridabock & Co., high quality, beautifully mfg'd and embroidered, consisting of double wrapped gold braid over black felt, embroidered with silver bullion Engineer's castle above large Colonel's war eagle. Gold-plated brass attaching strap marked ''Ridabock & Co., Formerly Baker & McKenney/New York''. Colonel's war eagle are interesting in that the eagle's head faces the same way as the arrows in talons. Both epaulets remain in their original japanned tinned box marked ''Ridabock & Co./Formerly Baker & McKenney/141 Grand St., New York''. This style epaulet was used post-Civil War until 1902 when the background color was changed from black to crimson specifically for the Engineers. Condition is excellent remaining virtually new with only slight tarnishing to one of the buttons. Beautiful and of high quality American mfg., extremely rare, and seldom seen in any condition.
