Late 18th Century Spiked War Tomahawk, hand-forged tapered blade, with hand-carved snake-wrapped hickory handle. Head measures 9-1/2'' in length, with spike portion tapering to a 5/16'' blunt tip. Integral snake wrapped three times terminating 1'' beneath head. Condition is fine with general carbon darkening to head and minor crazing to original finish of shaft. A beautiful example of a Revolutionary War period tomahawk, similar to those pictured in the book ''Battle Weapons of the American Revolution'', by George Neumann, and generally attributed to Great Lakes and Upper New York Native Americans.
