Late 17th to early 18th century continental flintlock pocket pistol with root burl wood stock. The pistol measures approx. 6” overall with 1-7/8” two-stage canon barrel of approx. .38 caliber or 9.5mm. The pistol shows early outside spring or frizzen and early trigger and other early features. The metal surfaces remain in good condition with light engraving still showing, some light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The lock and small parts are all original. The root burl wood stock is good to very good with a couple of small cracks, normal aging, and a fine grain. We would date this rare and diminutive pistol at about 1680 to 1710 and it appears to be French in styling, but no maker’s name. Est: $1,250 - $2,500
