Las Vegas,NV - Clark County - c1930s-1940s - Boulder (Hoover) Dam Post Card Collection :
Lot of 7 early and unusual cards depicting features of Boulder Dam. Three are real photos, one showing the site of the dam looking upstream, a second is a photo of the Reservoir Site, looking down stream (J.F. Perkins photo), and the third is of the theatre building in Boulder City, Nevada; another card is a color litho showing a 150 mean transport bus/truck for dam construction workers; one is an aerial view of Las Vegas and the surrounding roads and mountains, with the dam shown at the lower right corner; the 6th is a yucca wood postcard showing the “Downstream Face Boulder Dam;” and the final is a “Tail-O-Phone Message” in leather showing a cowboy at the tail and a woman at the ear of a burro getting “the message.” The dam’s name was changed once from Boulder to Hoover at the dedication ceremony in 1930, and then changed back to Boulder when Roosevelt became President in 1933, and finally changed again to Hoover Dam for the last time in 1947.
