Large rare folding hunter-pattern knife. Approx. 8-1/4” closed. Iron front bolsters with German silver pommels depicting a portrait of General Zack Taylor on one side and the mounted General Taylor and the words “GENl TAYLOR”. Iron liners with swell-center beautiful-grained stag scales and German silver pins. Both blades have been period replaced. The master spear blade is 6-1/4” with an unmarked ricasso and a long hand-engraved nail nick with a false edge. The master blade shows sharpening on both edges. The smaller blade is a clip-point 4-1/2” with an unmarked ricasso and a long nail nick. The blade shows sharpening on both sides. Blades show an aged even patina. Large blade has a good snap. Small blade is lazy. Overall excellent condition with the replaced blades. Dated late 1840’s to early 1850’s. Hugh Hayes Collection. Est.: $1,000 - $2,000
