Large folding lockback sportsman’s knife by Mappin & Webb with 3 blades and a variety of instruments including a combination tweezer/lancet insert at one end of the grip and prick at the other. Also a scissors and a 12” three-piece measuring tape. Approx. 6-1/4” overall (closed). The master spearpoint lockback blade is 4-7/8” long and is etched with Mappin & Webb Sheffield logo and trademark. The blades include master lockback spearpoint, a saw blade, a file, a can opener, a button hook, an awl, a small pen blade, a fingernail file, a cork screw, and an auger. All of the blades snap properly. The master blade shows sharpening with full edge and tip. Thick ivory scales measure approx. 5/32” thick with German silver pins. The hilt has German silver tipped bolsters and a German silver bail. Ivory scales have an uninscribed silver escutcheon plate. Scales show hairline cracks and one 1/4" chip to the obverse side at the master pin. Circa approx. 1860’s-1870’s. Hugh Hayes Collection. Est.: $800 - $1,600.
