Set in its original faux rosewood & gilt frame, this large & lovely sampler was worked by Ellen Wandforth in 1845. Although a little faded by age this is a very pretty example unusually shows a girl sitting in a chair with her pet parrot perched before her & holding up a book for her to read. The charming inscription reads '' This i have done to let you see, what care my parrots took of me, when i am dead and in my grave, take care of this and keep it safe''. On the reverse (lightly torn) backing paper it reads '' E. Wadforth, Woodley. A unique & lovely historical item.
