Large antique I. Read clip point Bowie knife with leather sheath, approx. 13-1/2” overall and 8-3/4” blade marked “I. Read, Lambert Street, Sheffield” on the ricasso and on blade is an etched flying eagle with sentiment “We ask for nothing but what is . . . . (rest illegible)”; blade is overall good with even wear and scattered spots of erosion; raised fancy cross guard with matching style pommel and patriotic spread eagle over union shield and branches with pierced pearl panels replicated on each side of the grip and both in very good condition. The leather scabbard is good but worn with openings in back to slip a belt through, some scuffing at the tip and wear to top edge; a well-made knife with classic patriotic grip.
