<td width="100%">
A beautiful typical late Victorian period (late 19th century) large 9ct yellow gold locket with double sided glass panels which can be turned around to show one side or the other. This one has an Etruscan style surround to the photo panel on the main side, with delicate applied gold rope work.
The photo is either an Ambrotype or Daguerretype of an aesthetic looking gentleman with a wing collar and wide bow tie. A small pin on the side of the locket pulls out to allow the panel to swivel, revealing the second photo on the reverse side - this is a much later (Edwardian period to 1920 latest) photo, also of a man.
Panels such as these can contain a photo on one side and a lock of hair on the other - you would need a jeweller to open the glass for you.
There is a suspension ring at the top of the locket, so it could be worn around the neck. The brooch pin on the rear has had the hook replaced at some stage (it is possible that the pin has also been replaced - or indeed the whole brooch fitting put on at a later date). Face of locket has only one very small fault - a tiny piece of the rope beading is absent. Otherwise, this locket has survived the last century in very good condition. It measures 4.6cm by 4.2cm (1.7/8 inches by 1.5/8 inches).
