The sestertius was a large, and somewhat valuable coin in Roman times, having the value of 1/4 of a denarius. The interesting reverse features the goddess Moesia between a bull and a lion. The coin measures 27 mm. Philip I, sometimes called Philip the Arab", ruled from 244 to 249 A.D., when he was killed at the Battle of Verona, after being betrayed by the rebel Decius.?
