You have the chance to bid on a Large Prehistoric Crinoid or Sea Lillie Fossil, including a stand. Crinoids are animals that live throughout the ocean; these Sea Lilies are of the form that attached themselves to the shale sea bed, using their long stalks that act as an anchor, which you can see evidently in this fossil. In life, these Sea Lilies have a mouth on the top surface, surrounded by long feeding arms - giving them a waving, moving effect that can also be seen in the fossil, frozen forever in stone. Many species of crinoids continue living today, however during the Silurian Period, they were much more abundant. These Sea Lillie would have been a vibrant, thriving part of this new ecosystem that was developing at the time. All-in-all, the fossil is in good condition, with one evident crack to the rim of the fossil. This fossil does a fantastic job of preserving, and displaying biological detail. The rock measures 14 3/4" at the widest, 13 3/4" tall, and 1 7/8" at its deepest.
