Found in Java, this impressive example of early Indonesian glass-making dates to the 1st millenium AD also (and may be Srivijaya-culture). It is among the largest I have seen, and also about as fine a condition as is known. Many centuries later they were traded to Palau and other South Seas islands where they became high-status goods and trade currency - so much so that by the 19th C. even small pieces were holed and worn as amulets and used in bride-price bartering on Palau (SEE: The research of Charles Opitz). Good orange color, fully intact and essentially perfect, this also has tightly-bound patination in parts that I have not tried to remove. Highly Important artifact with a 3-1/16" I.D., it had to be for a high Chieftain at the time.
