An important relic from the Late Stone Age in Java, this lovely Greenstone chisel measures almost 10" long and is essentially perfect (though cleaned a bit strongly for my taste). A burial smell can still be detected, and the butt end shows evidence of being used as a hammerstone - likely in the ritual breaking of nuts or seeds (betel-chewing a possibility, though many other plant products were utilized in ceremonies from ancient times onward). Traces of staining, this is Rare museum-quality for a 2nd-1st millenium BC artifact - which is absent from most collections of ancient worldwide stone arts.
