Large Land and Slave Broadside
Large Broadside, COMMISSIONER'S SALE OF LAND & NEGROES, 13" x 14.5", Campbellsville, Kentucky, April 2, 1860. A visually impressive testament to the power of America's "peculiar institution". The broadside reads in part:"...I will sell to the highest bidder, at the Court-House door...FOUR LIKELY NEGRO MEN & ONE WOMAN! Also 300 Acres of Land well improved, with A Large Brick Dwelling upon it...lying on the National road from Lexington to Nashville. The slaves will be sold on credit of four months, and the land on six and twelve months, equal payments...". Estate sales such as this one would have surely attracted itinerant slave traders eager to supply the insatiable demands of Deep South planters. Moderate foxing, several vertical folds and a central horizontal crease. Good condition.

Important notice:</
