<td width="100%">
Fantastic early Brice Marden etching. From the portfolio Five Plates, each etching lettered (a)-(e), this etching is (e). Completed in 1973, this particular print was the first one that Marden worked on in this portfolio. The Etchings from the Five Plates portfolio mimic the compositional aspects of Marden's series of paintings "Grove Group", which he was working on the same time. According to Marden's catalogue raisonee of prints from 1961-1991, Marden considered this portfolio to be not only a variation on the "Grove Group" but a study for it. This particular print was previously framed and there is evidence of this on the reverse which in no way effects the front of the paper. This is an excellent impression in fine condition. A magnificent example of Marden's early minimalist work. Printed from 1 zinc plate in black on Rives BFK paper in an edition of 50. The Museum of Modern Art in New York is currently honoring Brice Marden with a retrospective of his work.
