Large Carved Hardwood Nazi Eagle Wall Hanger Marked "OBERSALZBERG", Primary Retreat of the Nazi Party

Measuring 36 inches tall and 26 1/2 inches wide, this hardwood carving of an eagle clenching a swastika in a wreath is finished in gold paint, with a steel hanging bracket installed into the back near the stamped marking "VERWALTUNG/OBERSALZBERG/1938". Originally a small resort town near Berchtesgaden in Southern Germany, Hitler was first told about Obersalzberg by one of the participants in his 1923 Beer Hall Putsch, and upon getting out of prison traveled there to finish dictating Mein Kampf. During the ascension of the Nazi Party, the royalties from Mein Kampf paid the rent on a small chalet called Haus Wachenfeld, which he would later buy and convert into his Burghof. Obersalzberg was bought out in it's entirety by the Party, which established a security cordon manned by the Liebstandart SS Adolph Hitler, and converted the area into the NSDAP's home away from home. Over the course of the war, the area was heavily bombed, and several buildings torched by evacuating SS troops, leaving little intact.
