Maxentius was born circa 278. He was the son of emperor Maximian. He served as emperor from 306 to 312 A.D. In a civil war, in which the forces of Licinius and Constantine were pitted against those of Maxentius, Maxentius was defeated and, supposedly, drowned in the Tiber River.
