Landscape Painting in the Style of Flemish Painting, 19th C
This oil painting depicts a romantic landscape with several people, painted in the style of the 17th century. The left foreground displays a peasant with a red bonnet in front of his house during work. Rightward another house is hiding behind the thicket of the riverbank. Further back, a peasant is walking with great strides along the lit part of the riverbed. In the background the silhouette of a village can be recognized. The dark coloured houses and trees stand in contrast to the light blue, cloudy sky. This image is a typical example of historic Flemish genre painting in the style of the 17th Century.



The painting is signed lower left ‘C. Allard’ (?). It is in good condition with traces of wear and age. The painting is varnished irregularly. Partly discolorations are eminent. The colour surface is covered with craquelure. Some touch ups are visible in the area of the roof on the left and in the sky. The total dimensions are framed 56 x 67.8 cm. The dimensions of the stretcher frame are 43.5 x 55 cm. (tm)
