Lakota Sioux Triple Batwing Tomahawk - Beaded Drop
The lot features a beautiful large older forged western pipe tomahawk with rare triple batwing cutouts and beaded drop from the Northern Plains, attributed to the Lakota Sioux Indians with old 19th Century beaded Buffalo hide drop also from the Sioux.

Tomahawk is forged iron with three rare cutouts in the blade which are referred to by collectors as “triple batwing” cut-outs. Large wide Western blade with flat unsharpened blunt bottom edge and rare facing small spur. Handle is a nice, later diamond shaped haft with hot file branded burnished and decorated with late brass covered metal trade tacks with round metal shanks.

Has a great Buffalo / Bison Indian tanned hide beaded drop from the Lakota Sioux from the 19th Century with long frilly twisted fringes with yellow ocher coloring and sinew sewing, all period correct glass trade beads.

Head appears to be earlier, older piece with older drop and later or refurbished handle.

Collection / Provenance: From the ex-Ted levy and Terry Haas Collections. The head measures 11 ¼ inches long with the drop hanging 28”L and the tomahawk itself being 26”L.
