Lake Pend Oreille Pictorial Map 1956 by M. McLean
Featured in this lot is an in depth pictorial map of Lake Pend Oreille in Bonner and Kootenai Co., Idaho, USA. Drawn and compiled by Marie McLean in 1956 and published by the McLean Studio, Glengary Bay, Sandpoint, Idaho, USA, this map shows the lake and surrounding areas in great detail while keeping it fun and engaging to look at. David Thompson was the first known white man to see this lake in 1809. The Indians called him "Koo-Koo-Sint"-"Starman" because of the observations he took of the stars, to draw his remarkably accurate maps. This map features many historic locations from the surrounding area of the lake including the site of Kullyspell House, a trading post for the Northwest Fur Co., Grouse Mt., and The Northern Pacific Railroad tracks. The map is framed and set behind glass. Overall the piece is in very good condition with no signs of damage. It measures 22" L x 17" W x 3/4" D.
