Hungarian statesman (1802–1894) who played a leading role in bringing parliamentary government to that country. After abdicating his briefly held post as regent-president in the turmoil that followed the ascension of Emperor Franz Joseph in 1848, the fugitive leader made a successful tour of Britain and the United States. LS signed “L. Kossuth,” one page both sides, 4.25 x 6.75, 1852. Letter written in the hand of Ferenc Pulszky and signed by Kossuth while exiled in England, in part: "I stated it publicly & privately that I expect the sympathy of England for Hungary will not remain barren. For the purpose of disseminating intelligence in Hungary & developing the true sense of the principle of non-intervention in England I desire to have the command of several thousand pounds…I request you send the amount of the subscription going on in Manchester, as soon as possible to me, as I leave England on the 20th and must arrange all matters previous to my departure." Matted and framed with a portrait and glass on both sides to an overall size of 12.5 x 11.5. In fine condition.
