<B>Lafayette S. Foster Autograph Letter Signed as Senator From Connecticut</B></I> “<I>L. F. S. Foster</B></I>”. One page, 7.75” x 10”, Norwich, Connecticut, April 15, 1856, in ink, to W. D. Ely, Hartford, Connecticut. Lafayette Sabine Foster (1806-1880) was a senator from Connecticut, who upon Lincoln's assassination and the elevation of Andrew Johnson to President, became President of the United States Senate. Had Johnson been assassinated as planned by John Wilkes Booth and his conspirators, Foster would have been next in line for the presidency. The letter on offer is a routine cover letter.
