Offering this exquisite circa 1800's ladies folding hand fan, end pieces and all inner spines on bottom half are beautiful mother of pearl with intricate inlaid circles and studs of what look to be sterling silver. There is also an intricate carved floral and beaded design in the mother of pearl. The top part is a soft almost marbled beige silk moire with hand embroidered floral designs in white black and tan - some of the flowers have tiny french knots. The silk is covered with hand sewn silver sequins. Measures 9" tall x 16 1/2" wide when open. Brass loop at bottom. Missing tassle, but could easily be replaced. Fan is in very good condition, no holes or tears; very tiny bit of shattering of silk at the bottom of two of the spines. The main spine on front has been broken at one time and repaired nicely. None of these tiny imperfections detract from the beauty of this piece of artwork. This is not a mass produced piece, looks to have been special made for some lovely young lady. An exquisite piece for your collection; would look wonderful in an ornate frame for display!
