La Fayette, IN - $20 1902 Red Seal Fr. 639 American NB Ch. # (M)7415
A great serial number 1 Red Seal which recently surfaced as part of an Indiana estate and has never been available to the collecting fraternity. This number 1 Red Seal comes from the family of the bank's president, H.A. Taylor, and is accompanied by an envelope bearing the words "First Twenty Dollar Bill Signed by Henry A. Taylor, president of the American National Bank. To be given to Henry Taylor when he comes of age. Mary Louise Taylor" and is signed by Ms. Taylor below her typed message. The note itself is beautifully bright and bears just three storage folds which are barely visible on the front. This bank is currently represented by only one note in the new census, a low-grade Blue Seal, which our records show was last offered to collectors in a Hickman-Oakes sale twenty-two years ago. Extremely Fine+++, a true Indiana trophy item fit for the finest of collections.
