LUTHER BURBANK
(1849 - 1926) American scientist and horticulturist who developed new strains of fruits, berries and vegetables, and the Shasta daisy as well. A.L.S. on his scarce "Olives, New Fruits and Flowers, Rare Nut Trees and Horticultural Novelties" letterhead. 1p. 8vo., Santa Rosa, Oct. 22, 1891. In part: "...In reply to your query. The party of whom you wish information has been as far as I have heard pretty generally reliable, yet I should feel some doubt as he buys about all of his trees. He seems to be a pretty square man generally, but is a bad gambler...". Slight offsetting. Sold with a second signature on a small card dated 1926 and two 5" x 7" printed portraits.
