Lt. General Lewis J. Fields (1909-1988) was a highly decorated officer of the United States Marine Corps. He served with 1st Marine Division during Vietnam War and later as commanding general of United States Marine Corps Development and Education Command. Grouping of 62 invitations, brochures, commissioning ceremony program and speech for the USS Vancouver LPD 2, souvenir medals from the commissioning, and visitors passes for the Senate and House of Representatives once belonging to Major General Lewis J. Fields and his wife. The 62 invitations, likely 1960s, are addressed to Major General Lewis J. Fields and his wife and feature Marine Corps, Naval, or South Korean insignia at the top margin, sent from top military servicemen including George Whelan Anderson, Jr., Joseph Stewart, Robert G. Owens, Jr., Fred Korth, David C. McDonald, the Korean Ambassador to America, several Korean attaches, Commandant of the USMC Wallace Martin Greene, Jr., and Leonard F. Chapman, Jr. Fields (1909-1988) served in the 1st Marine Division during WWII, was a Lieutenant General of the 1st Marine Division during the Vietnam War, and was later the Commanding General of United States Marine Corps Development and Education Command. During his service in WWII, he was stationed at Guadacanal, the Battle of Edson's Ridge, and the Battle of the Cape Gloucester. During Vietnam, Fields was transferred to Okinawa and directed Operation Hot Springs, Operation Colorado, and Operation Fresno. For his military service, Fields received the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and many other awards. Very good.
