<b>1118. LOUIS MOUNTBATTEN</b> (1900 - 1979) British naval commander and statesman, supreme allied commander in Southeast Asia responsible for the recapture of Burma. Fine content T.L.S. "<i>Mountbatten of Burma</i>" on his First Sea Lord, Admiralty letterhead, 1p. 4to., London, May 6, 1935, to Mr. Spivak of Meet the Press, in part: "<i>...Of course I know all about `Meet the Press' and have heard of this remarkable form of Press Conference from many people...I am afraid, however, that it will not be possible for me to accept your kind invitation for the reason that Officers of the Defence Services in the British Service (as opposed to those appointed to N.A.T.O. duties) are not supposed to broadcast or appear on television...</i>". Handsomely framed with a nice color photo of Mountbatten in uniform at work as his desk. Signature is light from sun exposure, just good condition. Along with an A.L.S. by British general <b>DOUGLAS HAIG</b>, 1p. 8vo., St. Boswells, Scotland, Apr. 4, 1924, to Sir John, in part: "<i>...Many thanks for your kind letter...My wife asks me to thank you very much for your enquiry and good wishes. I am glad to say that she is very much better...</i>". Nicely framed with a portrait of Haig. Wear to bottom margin, affecting signature, otherwise good condition. Two pieces.<b> $75-100</b>
