(1805 - 1877) Union admiral who commanded the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron and planned the naval aspects of Burnside's Roanoke expedition. War-date L.S., 1p. 4to., Hatteras Inlet, Jan. 21, 1862, to Acting Master Gregory of the USS "Western World". In part: "...As soon as the weather, in your judgment, will permit, you will proceed with the U.S. Steamer 'Western World' under your command & execute the orders from the Navy Department under which you left New York & arrived here...". Fine condition.
