LOUIS CARRIER BELLEUSE - "SAUVE QUI PEUT". An important antique Choisy-le-Roi-Majolica covered urn. The oviform vessel with rose ground supported on a base mounted with white putti in distress, surounding the title plaques. Pair of applied handles in form of gnomes with bat's wings. Hallmarked and signed. 20" high. Circa 1880. Louis Carrier Belleuse was a frequent exhibitor at the Paris Salons, his ceramic work for the Choisy-le-Roi and Sevres Factory as well as for A. Rodin is of a particular importance.
