(1) Gauntlets: one back of right of the pair, written in black ink, old hand, "…?… …?… William Cody". Photocopy of provenance (written on SMITH-RICHEY MOTOR COMPANY stationary), "Maurice Dear, Am leaving you a gift of the Cody Gloves for you to keep with your Cody Guns. They belong with you as they were my fathers Major Aldersons. Love Anna (Anna Alderson was the grandmother of the consignor.). Mr. Rickey has them in his safe." Of native tanned caribou hide trimmed with beaver fur, and decorated on top of hand area and cuffs with elaborate semi-realistic floral / foliate beadwork - typical of various tribes in Athabasca (North Central Canada). Indians frequently employ asymmetry in their arts, as an example of this, one gauntlet is lined with green blanket material and the other with red. Size: 12" long. CONDITION: Fur completely worn away from decorative strips, general surface soiling and some stains, seam open for 2"" at base of thumb, left of pair. (2) Scout jacket: Cree, small man's size, machine sewn, constructed of lightly smoked, native-tanned deerskin. Top of cuffs and right lapel elaborated with scalloped edges, collar, shoulders, back of yoke, sleeves, tops and bottoms of pockets, and bottom margin of jacket - all fringed. Size: 27" long, shoulder to shoulder 18". CONDITION: Overall light surface soiling, numerous small spots, mottled ink stain on left pocket, bottom of left sleeve torn, cuff missing. 4-56796, 4-57093 BL71 (3,000-4,000)"
