LOT OF 2 CDVS, MAJOR P. FOX, 1ST MICHIGAN E&M AND SON J.N. FOX, 1ST . Both cartes without bm and identified in period ink on verso. Perrin V. Fox enlisted as a private and by war's end had risen to brevet Colonel of the specialist 1st Michigan Engineers. Sixteen-year old Newton Fox joined his father's regiment in 1864 and earned the chevrons of a Sergeant Major. Both men were discharged in September 1865. Serving in the western theater the skilled Wolverine artisans perfected techniques of combat engineering and static construction winning a solid reputation for reliability. As specialists they were considered too valuable to serve as infantry though when forced to do so they acquitted themselves admirably. The Newton P.
