Amstelodami, apud Danielem Elzevirium 1678With a fine engraved title-page and 788-pages, 12mo, 18C red morocco-backed boards, silk marker : a nice copy. Willems 1548. The first issue, of two, with the shield on the engraved title-page blank and "quot extant" in title. "A master-piece of printing." - Dibdin. This Elzevir Livy is remarkable for the minuteness and clarity of the type from which it was printed.ALSO WITH THIS LOT: CATULLUS, TIBULLUS & PROPERTIUS. Catulli, Tibulli, et Propertii Opera. Londini : Typis J. Brindley 1749. With engraved vignette title-page & additional engraved title-page, pp (4), 132 : 120, 2 parts in 1 volume, 12mo, contemporary calf, gilt bordered sides, with label, gilt : label chipped and binding rubbed and worn, but still strong, otherwise a clean and very good copy. Edited by Usher Gahagan (hanged 1749) the Co Westmeath-born classical scholar and coiner. He was a more than competent classical scholar and found employment editing J.
