LINDBERGH, CHARLES A.
(1902 - 1974) American aviator who, in his "Spirit of St. Louis", was the first to fly solo non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean. Spectacular S.P., a two color woodblock print adapted from a familiar Acme News Picture bust photograph of Lindbergh signed and inscribed by the artist "Hon. Wm. P. MacCracken, Jr., with compliments of H.A. von Valkenburgh". The print is matted and framed and Lindbergh has written below the image on the mat: "To Sec. Bill MacCracken, Sincerely, Charles A. Lindbergh Mar. 27, 1928". MacCracken (1888 - 1969), was the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Aviation, and one of the more important figures in the history of commercial aviation who promoted and assembled the first airline system in the continental U.S. He was the first government official to regulate commercial aviation during the 1920s. Light crease in mat only marginally affects Lindbergh's signature. Inscription and signature on mat a bit light, but still very legible, overall very good condition.
