LIMA COSTUMES
An album of some 85 original water colours (with some hand coloured engravings) of Peruvian costumes, characters and views mounted on 83 sheets. Further sheets contain mounted photographs, visiting cards and invitations. The invitations are to an Archibald Smith and are dated 1852/53. One of the drawings is dated 1853. Presumably the water colours which are of a naive but enthusiastic character and which are accompanied by explanatory notes on the subjects were intended to record an extended stay in Peru. Contemporary half calf, rebacked with cloth. Small folio, [c. 1850]
