This is known as the "Peace Drive" poster, designed by noted French artist Henri Baptiste Lebasque to promote the rebuilding of Europe following WW I. A woman with infant and child sits comfortably in the foreground, hopeful for the future, while men build structures and til the land. The factories on the horizon represent industrial progress. Henri Baptiste Lebasque was born in Champagne, and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He developed a style of portraiture under the teachings of Leon Bonnat. He began exhibiting at the Paris Salons and art society exhibitions. His art became widely respected for its Fauvist inspired colors coupled with quieter subject matter.
