Wardate ALS, as Colonel commanding 173rd New York, 2pp, Mar 16, 1865, 8vo, Winchester, VA, to Col C C Dwight, nice content from a hero who had been court martialed just a few months before. In part, "...furnish me with any information you have respecting the prisoners belonging to my regt now in the hands of the Rebels...I hope you ultimately succeed in releasing them. I am...quite restored to all my rights. We are lying quietly in environs of the town. General [Winfield Scott] Hancock's influence pervades...he commands Division in place of [Philip] Sheridan...This Brigade is temporarily under my command. [William] French leaves Gen [William] Emory's staff in a short time...Cooly has gone with [George Armstrong] Custer and the Cavalry to Richmond..." WITH Printed General Orders #13, Nov 13, 1864, giving the results of Peck's court martial. He was acquitted of charges of "Misbehavior Before The Enemy", filed by Major General Nathaniel Banks.
