The Life and Letters of Charles Darwin, compiled and categorized by his son, Francis Darwin. The books have fine full leather bindings with Glasgow University coat of arms on the cover and the spine. The books were awarded for merit in engineering and signed by Archibald Barr who held the Regius Chair of Civil Engineering at the university and was the founder of the military optics company Barr & Stroud.

The Life and Letters of Charles Darwin in 3 volumes. Second edition, published in 1887 the same year as the first, by John Murray. Fine full leather bindings with fine gilt tooling to cover and spine. Volume 1 395 printed pages, volume 2 393 printed pages an volume 3 418 printed pages.

Condition

The books are in excellent condition for their age. There is foxing to the first and last blank pages and minor wear to the leather covers. There is a bookplate to the inside of the front cover and an owners inscription to the first blank page. All books wrapped in removable cellophane to protect them. We have provided a number of photos to show the overall condition of the books.
