LEONEV, ALEKSEI
(b. 1934) Russian cosmonaut, the first man to walk in space. Very fine content T.Ms.S. 3pp. large 4to., [n.p., n.d. but bearing an approval by a censor dated Oct. 12, 1967], his notes in Russian for a report loosely translated as "The perception of space in space" describing general ideas for his lecture. The manuscript reads loosely in part: "... It is important to study the questions of perception by man of space in outer space because it is necessary to know about it when controlling the spaceship (when approaching, meeting, landing on the earth, moon and other planets), also during working operations outside the spaceship in open space (like carrying out construction welding and other works)...In these conditions the psychological impression of man about his position relatively of geometry of the spaceships cabin is “ruined”, so he must transfer to percept space only on bases of his visual ideas...Experiments carried out in conditions of short weightlessness, experience of orbital flights and cosmonauts’ coming out of spaceship in outer space, showed that man can adjust to perception of space in such unusual conditions…" Together with a short D.S. 1p. large 4to., [n.p.] Sept. 4, 1967 an affidavit that the intended speech will not reveal state secrets. Signed in red ink. File holes at left margins, very light age toning, otherwise very good condition.
