LEON TROTSKY
(1879 - 1940) Russian Communist leader who with Lenin organized the Bolshevik October Revolution, defeated by Stalin in their struggle for control of the government, banished and later assassinated in Mexico. Rare and fine T.L.S. 1p. oblong 8vo., Sept. 5, 1920 [?] a telegram sent from his secure train to the head of assembly ("Presidium") Mr. Asmont, stating that a report has shown that the fabric needed to make the "September flag" was not delivered to the government factory in time to complete the flag. Trotsky adds that it is very important to have the materials and requests in the future he pay more attention and complete the job with professionalism and enthusiasm. Very good condition. The Russian Civil War (1918-1920), in which the Red Army successfully defended the newly formed Bolshevik government against various Russian and interventionist anti-Bolshevik armies, had raged for two years prior to this document. Second only to Lenin was Trotsky, who as commissar for war not only had supreme command of the armed forces but was also largely responsible for organizing supplies and for the mobilization of manpower. The war's peak had been reached in 1919 with the Red Army's invasion of Ukraine and subsequent taking of Siberia. By November 1920, two months after this document, the war was over and the Red Army victorious. Its victory was largely attributed to superior military organization and leadership, including that of Trotsky.

Estimate: $1,500 - 2,000.
