LEADBETTER, DANVILLE
(1811 - 1866) Confederate brigadier general who constructed the defenses at Mobile and Chattanooga. After the war he fled to Mexico and then Canada, where he died. Rare war-date partly-printed D.S. signed twice "D. Leadbetter Brig. Genl" on CSA Requisition for Forage form, 1p. oblong large 4to., Atlanta, July 1, 1864, ordering forage for Leadbetter's horse for part of July. Signatures and some text are typically very light, the first signature lighter than the second, strongly suggesting the use of "gunpowder" ink. Light, even toned spotting, overall very good. Estimated accordingly.
