Relating to the American revolution and the Franco-American alliance, this political satire purports to be the correspondence of de Sartine with Franklin, among others. FIRST EDITION (?), pages 307, (1, adverts), 8vo, contemporary calf, gilt spine : binding lightly worn and wanting label, but sound and strong and otherwise a very good copy. Louvet (1760–97), French novelist, playwright, journalist, politician, and diplomat. The first edition (it was also published at Paris during the same year) of a portion of his Memoirs. They were mainly written in the various hiding-places in which he took refuge, and they give a vivid picture of the sufferings of the exiled Girondists.
