LATIN MEDICAL TEXT MANUSCRIPT, 18TH CENTURY.
A manuscript volume of medical text concerning the role of hygiene and sanitation on health, written by a number of anonymous authors; possibly of German or French origin, dated 1746 and 1756. 12mo (7 1/2in.). Full calf, raised bands, gilt leather label. 287 handwritten pages. Condition: Wear overall and losses to ends of spine; pages very clean, mostly just light soiling at edges; armorial bookplate for F. F. Praed de Woodchester on front pastedown. A section of the text appears to be Germanic in nature, possibly representing transliteration or Latinizing of German words. Sections include "Mannale casuum scientio ad formenta pestiinentium" (A study of the development and spread of disease); "De poramentis in genere" (On pores in general); and a section titled "De Baptismo," likely related to hygiene. Original sections appear to have been amended and expanded over time by subsequent authors/researchers, and underlined words suggest the volume was used as a reference, likely by students or doctors. A published work corresponding with the manuscript has not been identified, inviting further research.
