This fine early iron breast plate date to the years 1780 to 1820 and measures about 16 1/2" x 13". The hand forged breast plate has been heavily cleaned, which is common amongst English armor and there is a repair near the right shoulder. There is a test shot in the lower left quadrant which is correct. The buff leather strap on the right side appears original and there is no strap on the left. The brass chains on the front are a modern addition to facilitate display. CONDITION: the piece is quite solid but is repaired at the right shoulder. It has been aggressively cleaned in the past but has begun to acquire a pleasing patina. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24749/BF). $400-600.
