LARGE DINOSAUR VERTEBRA
Maiasaura peeblesorum
Cretaceous, Campanian stage
Private ranch, Two Medicine Formation, Montana
This is an extremely large caudal vertebrae from the maiasaura, one of the duck-billed hadrasauridae. Its name, the only female one given to a dinosaur, means "good mother lizard". The first remains discovered of Maiasaur were with nests of eggs and hatchlings, indicating that unlike modern reptiles and most other dinosaurs it raised its offspring rather than abandoning them to their fate. This vertebra has no restoration and the bone quality is exceptional; at 20¼ inches long on a simple display base, it provides an eye-opening scale of comparison for imagining the enormous size of this typically 25 foot long animal.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
