<B>LARGE BRIGHT PURPLE AMETHYST GEMSTONE</B></I><BR> <I>Brazil</B></I><BR>Ancient Roman emperors had amethyst goblets carved in the mistaken belief that the amethyst would counteract any poison and keep them from getting drunk. Alas, it did not work in either case. Amethyst is actually quartz with trace levels of iron causing the purple coloration. The intensity of the amethyst color is dependent on the quantity of iron and where it is located in the atomic structure of the quartz. This large round brilliant amethyst gemstone has a checkerboard top, as well as bright, clean even color. It is extremely well cut.
